When Should a Supervisor Listen, Whisper, or Barge In?

A supervisor doesn’t always need to jump into a live call. Sometimes, just listening is enough.

Here’s how I’d look at it:

👂 Listen — When you want to understand how the agent is handling the conversation without interrupting.

💬 Whisper — When the agent needs a quick nudge or guidance, but you don’t want the customer to hear it.

📞 Barge In — When the situation needs immediate intervention and the supervisor needs to join the conversation.

The real question is not “Which feature should I use?”

It’s:

“Does this call need observation, coaching, or intervention?”

For example:

New agent struggling? → Whisper.

Checking call quality? → Listen.

Customer escalation getting serious? → Barge In.

VoIPSetu’s Supervisor Console brings Listen → Whisper → Barge into the supervisor workflow for live coaching and intervention.

How does your team decide when a supervisor should step into a live call?
